Thx to madcat, this gives me an inspiration of opening a Game Room for Swinburne students. From my hometown, Sibu, UCS opened a simple game room with PS2 & XBox 360. So wat are u guys thinking about opening 1 for us? Since the old GYM is empty at the moment, care to make it a game room instead? Or we modify the current boring student lounge with more game consoles. I personally like Para Para Paradise, so can we manage to set up 1?

BTW, these features are paid by students on the spot. I suggest the 'action' type of game consoles so that they will be tired after the game to leave for others who want to play with them.

What did you mean by "pay"? Like the game machine where you insert coin to play that type? If so then I would choose pinball type game machines Very Happy

You mean arcade machines. Well, it would be good but I wonder how long it will last. Those things aren't cheap to begin with and with students having itchy fingers, I reckon it will be abused.

If everyone can take care of it like its our personal belongings (well, I've seen people treating their belonging bad too) hey, why not. Its beneficial to everyone too instead of studying day and night.

good point buddy..
but.. like you said arcade machines, the cost is indeed high to start off, and the cost to maintain.. (its noisy during operation as well)
setting up PS and Xbox is a better idea in my opinion. set up a pay per play / hour rule.
and then, set up another 2-3 sets of TV for students who rather bring their own devices.
headset must be used during the "operation" to eliminate "sound pollution".

we also need to find some people to take care of the place. i mean volunteer, so that the "barbarians" will not destroy or abuse the devices.
unless you have cctvs installed. then it should be ok.

about the games provided. well since its not too expensive, it could be donated by students. im sure gamers have a whole mt Everest of games. Donate 1 or 2 piece will be good. or the fees collected could be used to purchase new games. if students like to play adventure games, get their own memory card. (could also save cost)

how does it sounds guys?

Ask someone donate PS1 console. lol. that way, even if damaged, it won't be a big deal. For the more expensive consoles, maybe can be locked in a cupboard and the person with the key will open the cupboard and switch it on when requested by students for a limited time. Then the selected game is inserted as well, and then the cupboard locked so that students cannot itchy hand touch the consoles. Or maybe they can schedule games for separate days as well.

=A= I have the feeling that it'll be male dominated and the guys will play Winning Eleven all the time or something.

Let's have Wii!!!!

People can get tired sometimes with arcade game consoles, so they wont keep on dominating them for more than 2 hours. I wont suggest those 'sit-&-play' types, but kinda 'play-until-u-sweat' machines. Jz like my Para Para Paradise machine loh. I jz can manage to dance for 10 rounds (1 time- 5 rounds) straight, them I got crams.

PS game discs can be 'pirated' ones or not? haha...

@swing
dear swing
u said go for wii.. but still it will be dominated by guys ler.. lol.. will reserve ladies' section.. other than that, when guys are deep into gaming, they will start to sell chicken or sell mushrooms (translate to Chinese). so reservations for ladies is essential.

@mrmoi
dear mrmoi
hm... force people to sweat is indeed a good idea especially for gamers who dont like to exercise like me.. GG..
but dont you think wii is better? light & compact..
anyway, who cares it a pirated or genuine disc? as long as it work its good.. ^^

@cat
Let's say students do manage to open up a room. I'm sure the stuff there would be under Facilities Department. Now, the peeps there are pretty particular about piracy.

/me shrugs

Don't really know the conditions of the ball game, but I believe it proves to be an issue, because the question isn't whether it's playable or not =S

On the same wavelength, I believe games do mean snooker, pool and foosball as well!
So quoting an older post of mine:

takuya wrote:
If it's possible, I'd love to see a department in charge of entertainment for students:- board games, table games for instance pool or a foosball table (please!), or even acoustic guitar. There could be a frontdesk to ensure there'll be no stealing. Deposits for those expensive stuff. In my vocab, that IS a student lounge =D

Scrabbles! RISK!! Board game. I suggest we allocate a small rack like the old student lounge before with chess and board games to entertain students while cooling themselves off the facility.

=\ Just a second thought. there is a small space to just place a board for all these things.

RISK board games to be heard!

Well, they could add cards games (eg; Uno, and stuff). Snooker/Pool table is also welcome, and like takuya said, foosball and maybe, just maybe, air hockey aside from board games.

Hey, those stackers are also nice and those mentioned by rollsroyce.

Yeah and about console gaming. Acceptable. But need to set various time schedule for gamers that like to test consoles game . Have to keep it locked on shelf's and etc. Or fetch the consoles back home for safety measures.

I think TV should be one of the primary functions for the student lounge too. xd Keep update on news =x

As far as I know, the UCS in Sibu, they use 'pay-per-hour' rate. They keep the game consoles locked in a drawer, and only opens when needed. The maximum play time is 2 hours.

That would be quite nice . Shud promote a bit of gaming just to past times.

If possible, just have games that consist of sports,racing etc and minigames. no need much actions haha.
