Time to stir up the tranquility....

First of all...I have no idea whether this thread is the appropriate place to put this up or not... So forgive me if there's a better place to do it.

Second of all I'm also not sure whether this topic will last long enuf. Perhaps Council would order it to be taken off...which would be a typical thing to do.

Moving on...

The reason I started this topic was to see whether I'm right or wrong. That's where you...yes you the one reading this could correct me.

Frankly speaking today is 28th of April...and by Friday it would be May. And till today I have not heard of any Events done by the Council.

Yeah you have that Cultural Village/Camp Permai( or was it sum other Clubs that did that?) thing that happen during the mid term break...but what else

Seriously I have no idea or mayb I didn't know about the events that the Council did within THIS SEMESTER so please....enlighten me.

The thing that I'm trying to say is where are the Student Council

Where's the activity that they shud have done for the students Where's the SwinNite (I guess they gonna post it after this saying its coming soon).

Was the election sum sort of popularity contest

Might as well let the Girls team during last year's election to be the Council for 2009. Mayb they cud have done MORE for us.

This would be my last Semester as a Swinburne student so I do have experience with this thing. I basically know each Council since my first semester here...from Saad's to Ah Khai and last year's Wee Chuns' term.

So who are 2009's Councils

Well, I can't say much here as I'm no longer in the council. However there is this one thing that has been bugging me is that this year's council has 2+ members, surely means more available man power compare to previous councils, where there were only 1+ members. Thus I would safely assume that there would be more output comparing this year's council with previous years isin't not? =/


Whatever it is, lets hear what the student council has to say first before we assume anything else shall we?

Break d Mic!. Thanks for sharing. We are currently doing SwinNight now... currrently there are some issues on the location where we were planning to hold this event. SwinNight is now postponed due to this. We are very sorry for this. As for events, there will be more events to come. We are currently brainstorming up more events for the students. Do be patient. As we're trying our best in this.

Lance. As of what you have said, we sure have more manpower this year. BUT as an EX member you should have know the system has change through the years making it difficult for decisions of SSSC to be exercised. I know this because i was in SSSC before you did. Further more, with more manpower does not mean we can do things as the way we like it, every decision will still have to go through the management as well. SO, as an EX member, i wish you could understand our difficulties.

I do understand your point of starting this issue. The picture of the SSSC is in fact not moving as what we expected. However standing in the place of the SSSC secretary I would have to defend my committee.

First of all, you said that there are no events yet visible too all students which is what we are suppose to do. Undoubtedly this is true. But do you realize what we have done to the students and clubs behind stage? We have been looking for sponsors and privileges to be given to students. And we are working hard to fund the clubs for all their activities. Btw, are you from any club as i seen u are a club moderator in this forum? Is the help from us to ur club insufficient? you can voice it up here too and we will sort out.

and also FYI, the constitution for the SSSC for this year has been changed. Thus we need time to coordinate ourselves with the new constitution. Applying the approval for an event has been more complicated. We need to go through more parties than ever before. So i seek you understanding for the delay of out SwinNite this year.

I really feel that if in future you have any non-satisfaction to the SSSC you would come to us face to face in the Student Council room to give us suggestions instead of complaining unofficially. Of course we do not blame u for starting up this issue in fourm, but i just feel that the best solution for us is suggestion instead of complaining.

I am nothing more but grateful that you have shared your thoughts with us, but, as ahjong has mentioned, getting approval from the management has been more complicated than ever. There are strict rules and regulations that we have to follow, which of course involves step by step of handling things. As for every season there is a reason, we are very sorry that SwinNite has unfortunately been postponed due to unfit location, which is of course not in our intention to do so. As we have all heard, not all plans go according to plan right? if plan A doesn't work, we shall go for plan B, and plans cannot be seen thru the eyes of third parties, it can only be seen after the plans has been executed. Therefore, please do bear with us for the moment as we sort things out with the management ya? Seeing nothing doesn't really means anything. Patience is a beauty.

And to clear your doubt on whether how long this post will stay here, nah, i can assure you that we will not run away from responsibilities by deleting this post so NO ONE ELSE WILL KNOW, or whatsoever reasons. If so, that would be CHILDISH right? Oh no, we're not that kind of person. We will take this positively, of course

Lastly, I can definitely assure u Break d Mic!, that we are all working hard to meet the best interest for students, so please bear with us for the time being, and hang on to our panties! =D

kelvinchai88, it is undeniable that the management is a big obstacle when the council wants to do something and the system changed every year. And the changed of system affects the clubs as well. However the system has changed until what level this year I got no idea so I can't say much here. What I meant in my previous statement of "output" is not about higher quantity of events but more towards work flow. Whenever we do things, we are always short of man power and had to look for friends who are not in the council to help out. And hopefully, this coming Swin Night would be a Blast! Moreover, more people = more brains =)

Yeah I'm a Club Moderator for Football Club. I used to be the liaison a.k.a PR for the club...meeting staffs, Advisors etc. But that was for last year. We have a new 'President' for this year...with new Board Members...i think. But so far "they're" doing nothing also...

Being an ex-Board member I do know that previous SSSC does help the Clubs whether financially or in any other way. Seeing that I am no longer with the Football Club I have no idea if it still goes on...

First of all, I would like to let you know that why everything is going so slow this year. This is because of the AGM which was organised too late which was during the middle of march. This meant that we only began our responsibilities at that time. But before that, we helped the management in many activities such as orientation, city tour and open day. We also helped to look for volunteers to participate in Famine 30 hours. Second is because of the new constitution. Every activity we do this year has to go through more departments for approval compared to the previous procedure. And for the financial part, it has become more strict compared to before. So, we really need to take a lot of time to hold an event

Then, I would also to let you know what we done so far. We help clubs to get their activities approval and get their fund approved. To do this, EVERYDAY we have to go to look for our advisor and management to follow up with them. And so far, everything is going smooth and most of the club's activities is approved. Other than that, we also raise up few issues which we received from the students to the management. First is the steel wire around the campus that might harm the students. And now, the steel wire around the campus has been dealt with. Second is the broken wooden platform at the cafeteria. And now we can see that it being fixed. Not only that, there are a few issues which is pending such as the time extension for the engineering computer lab. And also this forum, we are now trying hard to make it active and we are still trying to come out with a new layout. The committee is working hard to get it done as soon as possible and we're going to have a promoting campaign for this forum which is still in planning stage.

Anyway, thanks for open up this thread. We are trying our best to make all the student university life more meaningful and exciting. Last but not least, the like what you said, Swin Night is coming soon, we just get the approval. The date is on 16th of May. Hope you and your friend will join us.

I believe that this would be an internal management for the football club, it is not for us to judge others of what they are, or not capable of. And yeah, of course, if there's anything that we can do, we will surely help.
Seeing that we are not the 'President' or 'They're', guess we can let them be in charge and control for the time being, and we will see what awaits ahead of us, shall we?
