| hi.. there will be no club performance because the management wants the event to be as perfect as possible.
If you want, you can join in watching the performance that they have. Traditional dance from different countries, live concert and many more....there are many invited guest but students are more than welcome to join in the refreshments and watch the performance. |

| Hi ai ling,
There will be a notice on blackboard opened to Student Helpers and we will help with the student performance section and also welcoming the Prime Minister ( he is invited but we don't know for sure if he is coming) and other VIP guest including the Dean of Monash University Australia and the Dean of Curtin University Australia.
I will let you know once i get the updates on things but do watch out for the blackboard notices. We will open a section for all students and then post it in there. |

| Hey, AngWC. Thanks for this prompt reply.
Do you mean we need sign up oueself individualy as the welcoming group (as BB notice) or we could actually act on behalf of the sign-up as club through council?! Please help to clear my doubt here! :p
Thanks!

not spoil the event but the management wants to avoid any "hiccups" that may occur in the event so they use professional cultural dancers. If there are any clubs willing to perform, they will have to be screened through very carefully and i quote from Professor Helmut" the performance must BE professional".
IF the clubs involvement can reach up to the standard, why not? however, the concern there are so many changes even now as they try to improvise, let's say, the clubs are given the OKAY to perform, however that day the performance schedule change, are the clubs okay with it after putting so much effort in?
The seriousness and importance of the image Swinburne has to show on this day is overwhelming. The Prime Minister will be coming, bomb squads, firemen, ambulance, police and VIP like the Dean from Curtin and Monash ( i only remember these two from the list) will be here. There are reporters from all newspapers, TV stations coming to Swinburne. This is an event that is grand scale which is fitting for the 100th Anniversary for Swinburne.
It is not that the clubs will spoil the event, this is DEFINITELY NOT what i am implying but the pressure that is on the management to do a good job. If ANY of the clubs can show a grand performance by 11th of August which completely reflects the word professional, by all means. Do you know even the Sarawak Cultural Village dancers? They are internationally recognized as world class dancers and has won many awards. However, the management wants them to perform for them 3 times, the last two rehearsals will be in Swinburne.
Drama Club which is a club filled with dedicated staff and talented students are not performing that day because they are not yet ready and they have been working twice a week( if i'm not mistaken) to improve their performance and yet, they will not be performing that day.
SPOIL the event? That day, the Swinburne Centenary, WE must avoid ALL sorts of hiccups at ALL COST. After all, we WILL be on National Television and this day will be recorded down under the pages of not just Swinburne History but also Malaysia's HI-ED history. |
