One of our ITS staff tried 'Windows 7 N' yesterday, but it required a key even it says no keys needed. Then they are forced to use trial mode. Btw, the build in game 'Chess Titan', similar to Vista's crash our new Lenovo PC's program and turn into 'Power Saving Mode' even it's a desktop and goes black screen (hibernates or shuts down?). Swinburne may plan to use Windows 7 Service Pack 1 if everything goes smoothly for the next few years.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't know Windows 7 N is available outside of the EU.
Anyway, news that Swinburne will be upgrading to Win7 is good news. XP had its days. Personally, my upgrading from XP to Vista and then Vista to Win7 has always been a one-way ticket. Can't live without searchable start menus, window snapping, jumplists and the sleek aero interface. I know, call me UI-freak. |

I can't get the enthusiasm behind the sudden exodus to Win7. For me, use XP till DX10/11 is required for games. _________________

I asked the staffs and they said that 'Windows 7 N' is actually provided for organization who bought their Windows package. It's Euro version alright, and even without Windows Media Player. It's said that other people sued Windows Media Player because they have been 'Monopoly' the whole 'media player' market if they kept on giving free Windows Media Player...

Same thing happened behind Internet Explorer. I use WMP because I'm lazy to download alternative player and it provides all I need without the crapware. Also, I try not to use it while connected to the Internet. Use alternatives for anything that goes online, for security reason. Less binding to Windows platform, less threat. Firefox FTW! _________________
